Toni Calzaferri

Toni Calzaferri (born November 14, 1947 in Kirchberg , canton St. Gallen ; † November 19, 1999 in St. Margarethen -Sedel; resident in Brigels ) was a Swiss sculptor , object artist and draftsman .

life and work

Toni Calzaferri was the son of a cooper and trained as a silversmith from 1964 to 1968 . He then worked in various skilled trades until 1974. From 1975 Calzaferri worked as an occupational therapist for acutely mentally ill people. Calzaferri lived in Zuzwil and worked as a freelance artist from 1984. Stone sculptures as well as wax and bronze sculptures stood with installations at the beginning of his artistic work until Calzaferri found his actual medium in iron sculpture.

Several shapes cut from sheet iron were put together and served as a printing block for Calzaferri's graphic work with embossed prints and material imprints. From 1981 he exhibited his works in various galleries, art halls and museums. In 1997 and 2009 the Kunsthalle Wil showed Calzaferri's works in solo exhibitions.

Calzaferri was awarded the Adolf Dietrich Prize of the Thurgauische Kunstgesellschaft in 1992 and was able to exhibit at the Ittingen Charterhouse . In 1989 he received a grant from the UBS Culture Foundation, and in 1994 he became a member of the Swiss “Lukas Society for Art and Church”.

On October 4, 1999, Calzaferri could have received the recognition award from the city of Wil .
