Tony Esposito (* 15. July 1950 in Naples as Antonio Esposito ) is an Italian musician from Naples. His hits Kalimba de luna (1984; covered by Pepe Goes to Cuba [Pepe Gonzales] and Boney M. ) and Papa Chico (1985) are well known.

Career

Esposito began his musical activities as a studio musician on the percussion . In 1975 he made his debut with the album Rosso napoletano , which was produced by Paul Buckmaster . At the same time he worked with a large number of his music colleagues, such as Francesco Guccini , Gino Paoli , Lucio Dalla , Pino Daniele , Edoardo Bennato , Alan Sorrenti , Roberto De Simone , Don Cherry , Billy Cobham , Gato Barbieri and Nana Vasconcelos . In addition to two other solo albums ( Processione sul mare 1976 and Gente distratta 1977) Esposito supported Eugenio Bennato's project Musicanova in 1976 . After participating in the Montreux Jazz Festival , the albums La banda del sole (1978) and Tamburo (1982) followed.

In 1984 and 1985 Esposito won the Un disco per l'estate competition with the song Kalimba de luna and As tu as . In 1986 he was also able to win a Nastro d'Argento for best film music with the soundtrack for the film Camorra . The following year, Esposito and Sinuè took part in the Sanremo Festival for the first time, and together with Eugenio Bennato he presented the next contribution to the festival in 1990 with Novecento Aufwiedersehen . In 1993 another Sanremo participation followed, this time with the song Cambiamo musica together with the group Ladri di Biciclette .

At the side of Gilberto Gil Esposito appeared in 2001 at Rock in Rio . In 2003 he reported back with the album Viaggio tribale , on which he worked with Franco Battiato and Edoardo Bennato.
