Tony Osoba

Tony Osoba (born March 15, 1947 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a British actor .

Life

Osoba was educated at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and began his career in 1974 as inmate Jim "Jock" McClaren in the British sitcom Porridge . The popular series resulted in a spin-off in 1978 with Going Straight and a feature film in 1979 . He made guest appearances on television series such as Lunar Base Alpha 1 , The Pros and Doctor Who, and starred in Game of Vultures alongside Richard Harris , Richard Roundtree and Joan Collins in 1979 . In 1982 he had a small supporting role in the action film The Command with Lewis Collins and Richard Widmark .

He gained fame in German-speaking countries through his portrayal of Detective Sergeant Charles Jarvis in the television series Dempsey and Makepeace . In 1990 he played the role of Peter Ingram in the long-running soap opera Coronation Street and in 1994 he starred opposite Timothy Dalton in the Ken Follett film adaptation of Ken Follett's Red Eagle . Between 2002 and 2003 he had the role of Branko in the series Dinotopia , in which Michael Brandon was also involved, with whom he previously played in Dempsey and Makepeace . Osoba is also active as a stage actor and has appeared in performances of Coriolanus , Julius Caesar , Antonius and Cleopatra and Titus Andronicus of the Royal Shakespeare Company .

Osoba has been married to Sally Wignall since 1989.
