Anthony Rory "Tony" Twist (born May 9, 1968 in Sherwood Park , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 463 games for the St. Louis Blues and Nordiques de Québec in the course of his active career between 1986 and 1999 National Hockey League on the position of the left winger . Twist embodied the Enforcer type of player .

Career

Twist was in Sherwood Park in the province of Alberta born, but grew up in Prince George in the province of British Columbia on. With the beginning of the 1986/87 season , the striker went for the Saskatoon Blades from the Western Hockey League on the ice, having previously played in Prince George junior ice hockey . He stayed loyal to the blades for a total of two seasons.

After the attacker in the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 in the ninth round in 177th place had been selected by the St. Louis Blues from the National Hockey League , he immediately switched to the professional field. By February 1991, Twist was mostly on the ice for St. Louis' farm team , the Peoria Rivermen , in the International Hockey League . Only during the 1989/90 season did the Enforcer make 28 appearances for the Blues in the NHL. It was only with the change to the Nordiques de Québec in exchange for Darin Kimble during the 1990/91 season that Twist managed to establish itself. He spent three and a half playing years in the French-Canadian metropolis before returning to the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in the summer of 1994 .

There Twist managed to stay in the Blues' NHL squad for the next five years, as head coach Mike Keenan maintained an aggressive style of play and the attacker thus fitted into the tactical concept. The Canadian finally stayed with the Blues until the summer of 1999, before his contract was not renewed by the club. Due to a serious motorcycle accident in August 1999, the free agent could not find a new employer and ended his active career.
