Torben Brostrøm

Torben Brostrøm (born June 4, 1927 in Kalundborg ) is a Danish literary historian , critic and university professor who received both the Søren Gyldendal Prize and the Georg Brandes Prize .

Life

After schooling Brostrøm graduated and was after graduating as a Master than 1,953 high school teacher in Copenhagen worked. In the mid- 1950s he began his long career as a literary critic for daily newspapers and magazines , focusing in particular on lyrical modernism in Danish literature . After Det umådelige mådehold (1959) a first edition of literary critical essays appeared in 1960 with the title Versets løvemanke .

1970 put Brostrøm, who was awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 1968, a first monograph about Klaus Rifbjerg , one of the most prolific Danish writer of the present, entitled Klaus Rifbjerg I before. In the following years he dealt with modern Danish literature as well as contemporary Swedish literature and in 1973 was accepted as a member of the Danish Academy ( Det Danske Akademi ).

In 1979 he accepted a professorship for Danish literature at the Teachers' College ( Danmarks Lærerhøjskole ) at Aarhus University and taught there until his retirement in 1992. In 1983 he published another volume of literary critical essays under the title Modernismen før og nu , ehe er 1986 got an honorary doctorate from the University of Lund .

In it he not only portrayed his childhood and youth in Kalundborg, Copenhagen and Aalborg , but also described his study and professional time after the Second World War as formative stations before starting his writing activities.

Most recently, he published another volume of literary criticism, Underspil (2002) and Rad og række (2006) and Ventetid. Om ikke at do. En nærerindring (2007) a continuation of his memoir . As a result, and his numerous other works, he not only had a great influence on the literary criticism of Denmark, but also influenced educational and cultural-political aspects.

In 2002 he received the Nordic Prize from the Swedish Academy .
