geography

course

The source of the Torneresse is on the moraine wall Les Plans ( 1970  m above sea level ) on the northwest slope of Cape au Moine ( 2352  m above sea level ), which forms the watershed between the North Sea and the Mediterranean , a little below the Col du Seron on the border with the canton of Bern . After a short walk through a landslide area that is occupied by shrub vegetation, it reaches the Seron alpine pasture . Shortly afterwards, the Torneresse flows in a wooded area from the right to an important source stream coming from the Col d'Isenau .

It now flows through partially wooded area in a semi-arc around the foothills of the Tête à Josué ( 2133  m above sea level ). In doing so, it takes in several small streams, which arise mainly on the slopes of the Wittenberghorn ( 2350  m above sea level ) and the Gummfluh ( 2458  m above sea level ). In L'Etivaz from the ends Vallon de l'Eau Froide coming Eau Froide left side in the Torneresse which is one of the main tributaries. Here it also meets the Col des Mosses pass road , which then partly follows its course. It now runs in a north-westerly direction and takes in several torrents, including the Bouratti and the Ruisseau des Ciernes Raynaud . Shortly after its confluence, about at the height of the Rocher du Midi ( 2097  m above sea level ), it forms a rock gorge over 100 m deep, which is called the Gorges du Pissot .

View of the Torneresse valley

The gorge opens shortly after the confluence of the Torrent des Coulayes . It continues northwards and flows through the hamlet of Les Moulins . The Torneresse flows about 400 m below this hamlet at 875  m above sea level. M. between Rossinière and Château-d'Oex into the Saane, which is dammed shortly afterwards to Lac du Vernex . The length measured on the longest source stream is about 14 kilometers.
