Life

Traugott Meyer was the son of Paul Gustav Meyer, a teacher. He attended primary school with his father in Wenslingen. After completing his teacher training, he taught as a teacher in Muttenz until 1931 and then in Basel until his death.

He began to write in dialect at a young age and was strongly inspired by Johann Peter Hebel . His poems, stories and novels found many fans and as a radio employee he became known beyond the Basel area with his stories s Bottebrächts Miggel . In 1948 he received the Johann-Peter-Hebel-Prize of the State of Baden . In 1959 he died in Basel. In the Heimatmuseum Aesch , his hometown , there is a permanent exhibition about the folk poet, and some of his manuscripts can be viewed .
