At 2304 m, the Treffauer is the third highest peak in the Kaiser Mountains in Tyrol .

location

The Treffauer rises south of the main ridge, making it one of the most striking mountains in the Wilder Kaiser. Somewhat separated to the north of the Treffauer, the long main ridge between Scheffauer , Sonneck and Zentralkaiser runs in a west-east direction around the Ellmauer Halt . To the south is the Tuxeck ( 2226  m above sea level ). The mountain belongs to the municipality of Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser , with the border to the municipality of Kufstein running directly at the summit cross .

Routes

The Treffauer is considered an arduous, but rewarding and not particularly difficult tour among mountaineers. Nevertheless, alpine experience, good physical condition, dry conditions as well as surefootedness and a head for heights are necessary. The designated normal route to the Treffauer begins in Scheffau and leads over the Jägerwirt, the Wegscheid-Hochalm, the Schneekar and the sunny western flank to the summit cross in around four hours (two insured places, repeatedly places I according to UIAA , two places in the lower second degree ). This path is by far the easiest and, in contrast to the neighboring Ellmauer Halt, less demanding, but particularly exposed in the upper area. Popular, but not to be underestimated, is the crossing to the Tuxeck with a subsequent descent to the Gruttenhütte . Difficult unsecured climbing areas (up to III) have to be overcome, and there is a high risk of falling rocks in confusing terrain.
