After no political agreement was possible for several decades, the City of Zurich took the initiative with two major projects that are unique in Switzerland.

The Waid City Hospital opened in 1953 to supply the Zurich North region, followed by the Triemli City Hospital for the population on the left of the Limmat in 1970, which also provides cross-regional services.

  18. The Rectors' Conference of the Swiss Universities (CRUS) states, among other things, on the tasks of a teaching hospital: «The clinical training depends on the proximity of top-class medicine and a sufficient patient potential ('critical mass'). In addition to the university hospitals, a large number of non-university teaching hospitals play an important role. The medical faculties are involved in the structured part of the advanced training on the basis of an explicit or implicit service mandate. On the other hand, the universities have no formal responsibility.
