Trimethylolpropane triacrylate is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid esters .

Extraction and presentation

Trimethylolpropane triacrylate can be produced by esterification of trimethylolpropane . Acrylic acid is a known contaminant in technical products.

properties

Trimethylolpropane triacrylate is a slightly volatile, very difficult to ignite, colorless liquid that is sparingly soluble in water. It can polymerize, which is why the technical product hydroquinone monomethyl ether is added as an inhibitor.

use

Trimethylolpropane triacrylate is a trifunctional acrylate monomer that is used as a reactive diluent in radical radiation curing and crosslinking agent in UV-curable paints and plastics, e.g. B. for printing plates or plastic coatings, and for the production of polyfunctional aziridine hardeners is used.

Safety instructions / risk assessment

In the case of trimethylolpropane triacrylate, a sensitizing effect in humans has been demonstrated in several cases of contact dermatitis, some of which is due to work.

Trimethylolpropane triacrylate was included by the EU in 2014 in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) in the context of substance evaluation in the Community's ongoing action plan ( CoRAP ). The effects of the substance on human health and the environment are re-evaluated and, if necessary, follow-up measures are initiated. The reasons for the uptake of trimethylolpropane triacrylate were concerns about exposure of workers , high risk characterization ratio (RCR) and widespread use as well as the suspected hazards from sensitizing properties. The re-evaluation took place from 2014 and was carried out by France . A final report was then published.
