Tshepang Makhethe (born February 19, 1996 in Sasolburg ) is a South African hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Tshepang Makhethe gained his first international experience in 2013 at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk , where he took sixth place with the 5 kg hammer with a width of 75.54 m. The following year he took part in the Junior World Championships in Eugene with the 6 kg hammer and reached tenth place there with 72.94 m, before winning the silver medal at the Junior African Championships in Addis Ababa with 74.28 m the following year . In 2016 he won the bronze medal in the adult category with 65.54 m behind the Egyptian Eslam Ahmed Taha and his compatriot Chris Harmse . In 2017 he took part in the Summer Universiade in Taipei for the first time and was eighth there with a litter of 69.77 m. The following year he finished ninth at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast with 67.99 m and then finished fourth at the African Championships in Asaba with 68.81 m, before he finished fourth at the Continental Cup in Ostrava with 66.29 m came in seventh. In 2019 he again took part in the Student World Games in Naples , where he was classified in tenth place with 65.70 m.

In 2019 Makhethe became South African champion and thus the first after 22 years in which Chris Harmse did not win. He is a student at Northwest University in Potchefstroom .
