Turn Blue was generally positively received by the critics.

According to Laut.de , the album seems "as clean and warm as never before in the history of the duo" . In addition, especially with the almost 7-minute long opener Weight of Love , "almost Pink Floyd comparisons" could be drawn .

The Rolling Stone called Turn Blue the best so far released album of blues rock - duo : "In every other way, did turmoil is a giant step into the best, most consistently gripping album the Keys have ever made. And that includes Their 2010 smash Brothers. " (Translation:" In all other respects this turmoil is a giant step towards the best, consistently captivating album that the Keys have ever created And that includes her 2010s smash hit. Brothers with a . ")

The Independent gave Turn Blue 10 out of 10 stars: “If not quite the anthem-stuffed rock monster that was El Camino, The Black Keys' follow-up album employs much the same formula of catchy, hook-laden melodies harnessed to tank-tread riffs did made its predecessor irresistible way. " (translation:" though not quite the jam-packed with hymns rock monster El Camino had been served, is the Black Keys' second album but largely the same recipe catchy, hook -beladener melodies which are used as the crushing riffs that made its predecessor so irresistible. ")

Barry Nicolson of New Musical Express (NME) criticized in his review , in which he awarded 6 out of 10 stars, that the influence of co- producer Danger Mouse on the album was too great. For example, he criticizes the psychedelic elements in songs like In Time and 10 Lovers .
