U-21 African Cup of Nations 1999 / qualification

The qualification for the U-21 African Cup of Nations 1999 was held to determine the seven finalists alongside hosts Ghana . The games took place between April 18 and October 23, 1998.

mode

The registered teams determined the seven final round participants in three qualifying rounds in the knockout system with home and return legs. In the event of a tie, the away goal rule decided on progress. If there was also a tie, a penalty shoot- out was carried out without extra time .

Preliminary round

The first legs were played on April 18 and 19, the second legs on May 2 and 3, 1998.

Mauritania withdrew their team after the first leg, Namibia and Gambia before the first leg. The other teams had no play.

The first legs were played between August 7 and 9, the second legs between August 28 and 30, 1998.

Result

Angola, Nigeria, Zambia, Cameroon, Guinea, Malawi and Mali qualified for the finals. Defending champion Morocco was eliminated.
