Platform of the Neu-Westend underground station

The Neu-Westend subway station of the Berlin subway in the Westend district of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district was opened on May 20, 1922, although it had already been structurally prepared in the years 1908–1913. Today this station is served by trains on the U2 underground line . The train station is on Olympische Strasse, bordering Reichsstrasse and Steubenplatz to the east, and Oldenburgallee to the west.

When the Reichskanzlerplatz station went into operation on March 29, 1908, construction work was already under way to extend the underground line towards the Deutsches Stadion , which opened at the same time as the stadium and the Stadion underground station in 1913. On the 1.7 kilometer long route, the Neu-Westend station - still under the planning name of Reichsstraße underground station - was structurally prepared, but the area there was still too sparsely populated for complete expansion to make economic sense. It was planned and contractually agreed to carry out the expansion by April 1, 1918 at the latest. However, the First World War interrupted the structural development of Neu-Westend and thus the further expansion of the route.

After the end of the war, construction work soon resumed despite the economic and political difficulties, so that the elevated railway company began the planned expansion. The architect Alfred Grenander was responsible for the architectural design, as was the case with almost all train stations . However, the means for the equipment were very limited compared to the pre-war period, which is why the station with its 113-meter-long central platform was only given a green paint without any other expensive equipment. For the then single input on the corner Steubenplatz / Prussia Allee is a cost effective solution provided by one during a reconstruction of the same time the station Nollendorfplatz there superfluous become portal here translocated . The shell limestone portal, the pillars of which are crowned by lanterns, was built in 1910 for the Schöneberg subway based on a design by the Schöneberg City Planning Officer Friedrich Gerlach .

The Neu-Westend train station was finally opened on May 20, 1922. Since then there has also been regular service to the Stadion station.

In preparation for the 1936 Summer Olympics , the station was given another exit on the north-western side of Olympische Strasse. Its portal is basically similar to the one on the eastern side, but does not carry any lanterns and the details are somewhat simpler. Otherwise relatively little changed at the station over the years, and the Second World War did not cause any significant damage. At the end of the war there was no underground traffic between 25th and 26th centuries. April and May 16, 1945.

The station was completely renovated in 1986/1987, with the entrance portals largely unaffected. First, a new lighting system was installed in the spring of 1986, and in the summer and autumn of the same year the back track walls were given new green ceramic panels . In the course of this renovation, the BVG also had new, standardized station signs installed.

Between March 1990 and July 3, 1991, the BVG had a single-track sweeping system built west of the station . The exact reason for the construction is unknown, among other things, an increase in the total train parking space on the U2 subway line is likely, as the takeover of the vehicles of the East Berlin transport company was imminent and the reopening of the car hall at Warschauer Strasse station was not yet was foreseeable. As early as March 2007, however, the sweeping track was dismantled to save costs. The sweeping track was rebuilt by May 2019 and put into operation on December 12, 2019.

An elevator installation in the period after 2010 has been planned since the end of 2003.
