history
SSBN-732 was commissioned in 1978 from the Electric Boat shipyard belonging to the General Dynamics Group and laid down in March 1983 at EB in Groton , Connecticut . The construction took less than two years, in January 1985 the boat was launched and was christened Alaska . Another year later, the submarine could be put into service.
The submarine's first home port was Bangor , Washington , from where the submarine spent 20 years on patrols for nuclear deterrence. Until 2009 the Alaska was overhauled for two years in Norfolk , Virginia , after which it was stationed in Kings Bay , Georgia .
