history

The construction contract for the U 1303 and the sister boats U 1301 , U 1302 and U 1304 was awarded to the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft on April 2, 1942 . U 1303 was on April 8, 1943 laid the keel and ran on 10 February 1944 by the stack. The commissioning under the command of Oberleutnant zur See of the Reserve Heinz Baum took place on April 5, 1944. In April 1945 Oberleutnant Baum and Oberleutnant Herglotz exchanged their boats; Baum received U 290 and Herglotz took over U 1303 . The tower maling of the boat showed a dog with a bone in its mouth with the name "Jim" above it.

Whereabouts

The boat was still in the training phase until May 5, 1945 and was sunk on that day in the Kupfermühlen Bay near Wassersleben by opening the flood valves by its own crew in order to prevent the Allies from accessing it . The wreck was lifted in 1948 and scrapped by 1953.
