Udo Folgart

Udo Folgart (born July 13, 1956 in Nauen ) is a German farmer and politician ( SPD ). Between 2004 and 2019 he was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament for the SPD , initially as a non-party , and since 2009 as a SPD member.

Life and work

Udo Folgart grew up in Ribbeck ( Nauen district ). After graduating from high school in 1975, he did his basic military service from 1975 to 1977 . This was followed by a degree in agriculture at the University of Rostock with a degree in agricultural engineering . In his profession he worked in a managerial position from 1982 to 1986 and as chairman of LPG Paaren from 1986 to 1990 . From 1990 he is managing director of Agro-Glien GmbH Paaren .

Folgart is the managing director of Agrargesellschaft Uetz-Bornim mbH, which came under fire when it made a lucrative offer to numerous lessors on a large scale before the lease expired. The background to the criticism of the local small family businesses was the concern that they would be forced out of the market with the loss of land. Folgart said:

“We'll stop these activities, it's not proper. We cannot act in this way - we don't want to force anyone out. "

In 1990 he was one of the co-founders of the MAFZ initiative ( Märkisches Exhibition and Leisure Center Paaren / Glien).

Udo Folgart is married, has two children and lives in Grünefeld ( Schönwalde-Glien municipality ).

Folgart was a member of the SED . From 1982 to 2003 he was a member of the municipal councils in Perwenitz (1982–1986) and in Grünefeld (1986–2003). He has also been a member of the Havelland district council since 1998 .

Udo Folgart has been a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament since October 2004. He won the direct mandate in the constituency Havelland I (2004: 33.1 percent, 2009: 34.7 percent, 2014: 36.5 percent).

As an independent MP, he was a member of the SPD parliamentary group , which he represents in the Committee for Rural Development, Environment and Consumer Protection . After the 2004 election, he was also seen in the narrower circle of politicians who would be eligible for the post of Agriculture and Environment Minister. Folgart has been a member of the SPD since 2009.

Before the 2009 Bundestag election , SPD chancellor candidate Frank-Walter Steinmeier accepted him into his “competence team”, in which Folgart was responsible for the focus on agriculture. Folgart is "Spokesperson for Rural Areas and Agriculture".

Further offices and memberships

Udo Folgart was President of the Brandenburg Farmers' Association from 2003 to 2016 . V. (LBV), from 2006 to 2016 Vice President of the German Farmers' Association (DBV) and from 1991 to 2015 Chairman of the District Farmers Association Nauen e. V. (from 1995 Havelland District Farmers Association e.V.).

Udo Folgart is an honorary member of the advisory board of the Deutsche Bundesbank Berlin and as chairman of the supervisory board of LAB Brandenburg GmbH as well as of the sponsoring association “Ländliche Heimvolkshochschule am Seddiner See” e. V. active. He is also a member of the board of the Nauen Water and Soil Association.

Remunerated activities are as chairman of the supervisory board of ZMP Bonn GmbH and memberships in the advisory boards of AGRAVIS AG Münster and R + V Versicherungs AG Wiesbaden.

Udo Folgart is a member of the Board of Directors of Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank .
