Udo Glatthaar (born February 19, 1961 in Sigmaringen ) is a German graduate administrative scientist , politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of the large district town of Bad Mergentheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

Life

Glatthaar grew up in Sigmaringen and attended the Hohenzollern high school there . After graduating from high school, he served in the armed forces . He then studied administration and economics at the University of Hohenheim , the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Konstanz as a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . He also worked for nine months in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior in the urban development department. He completed his studies with a degree in administrative science.

After completing his studies, Glatthaar worked from 1992 to 1995 as a personal advisor to Lothar Späth , CEO of Jenoptik AG , and head of the Investor Center at Jenoptik AG, and as a project manager in Jena . This was followed by further professional positions in business: for example, he was branch manager of a bank. He then worked as a managing director at a subsidiary of a personnel consultancy and from 2003 as a representative for southern Germany for the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce and other business development agencies in Stuttgart, where he also has his current residence.

Political activity

In 1995 Glatthaar ran for the mayor's office in Hechingen , but was defeated by Jürgen Weber (FWV) in the second ballot. In January 2011 Glatthaar applied for the office of future economic promoter of the district town of Balingen . On January 27th, the Balingen municipal council voted in favor of Glatthaar with great approval. However, only four days after the announcement of his election in Balingen, Glatthaar had decided to run for the office of Mayor of Bad Mergentheim and submitted his documents to the town hall of the spa town on January 31, 2011, the day of the application deadline. As a result, Glatthaar withdrew his post in Balingen, which he had applied for because he wanted to return to the municipal sector. In the first ballot on February 28, 2011, he was just behind the incumbent Lothar Barth with 43.7 percent of the vote . He won the runoff election on March 27, 2011 with 51.07 percent of the vote.
