Ulm railroad friends
The Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde e. V. (UEF) are an association for the promotion of the preservation of historically valuable railway material . The association was founded in 1969, has around 700 members and has around twelve steam locomotives and numerous historic wagons .
Sections
The association has been divided into four sections since 1999, with two sections being legally independent and thus indirect sections (local railway and historical steam express train).
Narrow-gauge railway section
The 5.7-kilometer-long narrow-gauge Amstetten - Oppingen ( Albbähnle ) line is driven with their own vehicles . The locomotive 99 7203 is used, partly also the diesel locomotive D8.
Local Railway Section (UEF Local Railway Amstetten-Gerstetten eV)
On the club's route Amstetten Gerstetten ( Lokalbahn Amstetten-Gerstetten ) historic run local railway -Dampfzüge and since mid-2006, the museum railcar T06. Occasionally, freight trains also run . The steam locomotive 75 1118 carries the historic steam trains. The section (. UEF Lokalbahn Amstetten-Gerstetten eV) has more diesel locomotives and railcars as well as historical branch line - passenger cars .
Ettlingen section (steam nostalgia Karlsruhe)
On two railway lines of the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft , including the Ettlinger Seitenbahn ( Ettlingen West – Ettlingen Stadt) and the Albtalbahn (Ettlingen Stadt– Bad Herrenalb ), as well as between Karlsruhe and Baiersbronn , i.e. on the Mannheim – Basel railway or the Murgtalbahn , A historic express train runs with a class 58 steam locomotive ( Badische G12 ). This was built in 1921 by the mechanical engineering company in Karlsruhe . 50 2740 is used on the Albtal and Murgtalbahn.
Other steam locomotives are stationed at the Ettlingen section, but they are not operational ( Class 44 and Class 86 ). Most of the cars for the express train were built in the 1930s and modernized in the 1950s. In 1991 the remains of Frederick the Great were transferred from Hechingen to Potsdam in the Dye 973 (AVG 408) baggage trolley stationed in Ettlingen, which is usually used for free bicycle transport .
Historical Steam Express Section (UEF Historischer Dampfschnellzug eV)
The section maintains what is probably the best-known steam locomotive of the Ulm Railway Friends , the 01 1066 , - currently (2018) parked - as well as the matching historical 1st and 2nd class express train cars from the 1960s. A WRtmh 134 dining car has been added since the beginning of 2018 . The express train coaches from the 1920s and 30s had to be parked in the meantime. The historic steam express train - reinforced by express train coaches from various partners such as the Passauer Eisenbahnfreunde , DB Museum , DBK Historische Bahn - is on the road all over Germany, but mostly in southern Germany . For example, Austria , Italy , France , Hungary , Sweden and Russia ( Kaliningrad ) have already been visited on multi-day trips .
The express steam locomotives are stationed in the South German Railway Museum in Heilbronn , the wagons in Stuttgart . Until 2016, the non-operational 01 1081 was on display in the Augsburg railway park as a museum exhibit. This is now back in Heilbronn, but is not open to the public.
The HDS took over 01 173 as a loan from the friends and sponsors of the German Museum of Technology Berlin e. V. (FDTM). The locomotive should be worked up again together. 01 173 was originally the first UEF express locomotive.
Train operation
The entire train operation is carried out on a voluntary basis by association members, from the car attendant to the certified locomotive driver . This not only includes driving operations, but also the work before and after the mission and - as far as feasible and permissible - restoration and repair work.
