Ulrich Grosser

Ulrich Grosser (* 1945 in Arnsberg ; † February 14, 2013 ) was a German conductor , organist , pianist and music teacher .

Life

Grosser studied in Aachen and at the State University of Music Westphalia-Lippe in Detmold . He passed a church music exam and the concert qualification for organ . He also received training as a harpsichordist , pianist, voice and conductor. He was awarded the title of professor in 1994.

Since 1968 Grosser has performed internationally as a conductor, organist, harpsichordist and pianist. Among other things, he directed the German Bach Orchestra, the Westphalian Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne and the Philharmonia Hungarica . In 2003 he took over the management of the Oistrakh Philharmonic based in Brussels . Grosser has been working with Krzysztof Penderecki since 2004 and acted as initiator and director of the Penderecki Festival 2006 in Münster . Grosser arranged a number of Penderecki's works for the organ, which he premiered on April 27, 2008 in Olsztyn . Grosser celebrated further international successes in collaboration with Agnes Giebel , Karl Ridderbusch , Christoph Prégardien , Sibilla Rubens , James Tayler , Phillip Lnagshaw , Hellmut Schneidewind as well as Igor Oistrach and Valery Oistrach .

In the course of his career, Grosser made more than 50 CD recordings as well as radio and television recordings.

Despite his illness, Grosser still gave concerts in Münsterland in 2012 . Grosser lived in Ladbergen for many years , in the last years of his life he returned to his native Arnsberg .

Awards

The Steinfurt district awarded Grosser the culture prize in 2005.
