Ulrich Schröter (theologian)

Ulrich Schröter (born June 15, 1939 in Berlin ; † May 24, 2018 there ) was a German Protestant theologian and author.

Life

Ulrich Schröter was a grandson of the German land reformer Adolf Damaschke . He grew up in Sperenberg near Zossen and from 1945 in East Berlin . From 1949 he attended the Evangelical Gymnasium (to the gray monastery) in West Berlin and passed his Abitur there in 1958. He then studied theology at the Ostberliner Sprachenkonvikt and the Westberliner Kirchliche Hochschule Berlin , at the Catechetical Oberseminar (KOS) in Naumburg (Saale) and one semester in Heidelberg and was ordained in 1966. From 1964 he was a tutor and assistant at KOS, and received his doctorate in 1971 (qualification procedure) with the presentation and examination of new work on the Hebrew verbal system. 1969–1983 he taught as a lecturer in Hebrew and the Old Testament at KOS, and from 1973 to 1977 he was also a student pastor of the Protestant student community in Naumburg.

1978–1983 he was a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church of the Union . 1983–1991 he was appointed head of training ( Konsistorialrat , later Oberkonsistorialrat ) in the Evangelical Consistory Berlin-Brandenburg (East area) and in 1990 was part-time coordinator of the dissolution of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) .

From 1991 he headed the Evangelical Office as a representative of the Evangelical Churches in the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. In 1999 he retired. 2000–2005 he was chairman of the Working Group for Berlin-Brandenburg Church History (today Association for Berlin-Brandenburg Church History).

  • 2017: Horst Dähn Prize of the Berlin Institute for Comparative State-Church Research (for his special achievements in coming to terms with recent history, especially the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg)
