Ulrike Schmidt (Mayor)

Ulrike Schmidt (born April 21, 1973 in Preetz ) is a non-party German politician. Since June 1, 2020 she has been the mayor of the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg in Schleswig-Holstein .

Life

Schmidt graduated from the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Preetz in 1992 . She then lived in Ireland and volunteered with mentally disabled children and young people for two years. From 1994 she studied Romance and English at the Universities of Kiel , Paris-Nanterre and Trier ; In 2002 she completed her studies with the degree Magistra Artium . In Trier she worked for two years as an employee for technical translations at RasaTec GmbH, then for around a year until August 2004 as an editorial employee at the cultural and broadcasting corporations in Kiel. In 2005 she earned an MA in Conflict Resolution from the University of Bradford .

Schmidt then worked as a research assistant and project manager for Southeast Europe at the European Center for Minority Issues in Flensburg . At the turn of the year 2008/09, she moved to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, where, as part of the OSCE Mission in Skopje, she headed the Tetovo regional office in North Macedonia , supported the establishment of local government in the former Yugoslavia (including Kosovo ) and integrated gender equality issues .

Mayoral election

In October 2019 she was put up by the local SPD parliamentary group for the mayoral election in Henstedt-Ulzburg on March 1, 2020 as an opposing candidate to incumbent Stefan Bauer , during the election campaign she relied on house calls in particular. She submitted her application in December. In the election, she prevailed in the first ballot with 53.2% against the CDU politician Holger Diehr and the independent candidates Valentin Deck and Sascha Klupp. She took office on June 1, 2020, with an electoral term of eight years. She was sworn in on May 19th.

Among other things, she named as electoral goals: “Affordable living space and innovative living concepts; Sustainable economic policy with investments in the infrastructure of the town center and the establishment of companies with the lowest possible emissions; an expansion of the cycle paths and public transport including extension of the S 21 to Kaltenkirchen and the U 1 to Ulzburg-Süd; the creation of cultural attractions around the town hall and market square. "

Private

Schmidt speaks fluent German, English, French and Spanish. She has certificates in mediation, negotiation management and dialogue creation. Her passions include art and photography, running and rowing, and French literature. Her brother Oliver Schmidt-Gutzat is the mayor of Heide . After her election, she moved with her North Macedonian partner from Eutin to Henstedt-Ulzburg. She has no children.
