Ulrike Weiler (born November 13, 1956 in Wolfersweiler , Nohfelden municipality ; † July 26, 2020 in Stuttgart ) was a senior scientist with a professorship at the University of Hohenheim in the field of behavioral physiology of farm animals .

Origin, education

Weiler is the second daughter of the post office telecommunications officer Martin Weiler and Lieselotte, nee. Goat. After High School on school Birkenfeld (Nahe) Weiler began in spring 1977 with the study of agricultural science and journalism at the University of Hohenheim. She completed her doctorate in 1987 with the dissertation Influence of light, race, age and frequency of collection on fertility criteria of boars . Through a scholarship (Scholarship Science Committee of NATO ) she came to Clemson University in the United States for a research stay . Weiler completed his habilitation in "Animal Husbandry and Performance Physiology". In 1996 Weiler received the venia legendi (teaching qualification) and in 2015 became an adjunct professor (associate professor) at the University of Hohenheim. Her research focuses on research and teaching: endocrine regulation of performance in pigs , meat quality and quality control , influences on the storage of odor-active substances in pigs . She has been researching wild and domestic pigs for more than 25 years , which means that Weiler has many years of experience in this field and is therefore very well known in the research area of pig endocrineology. Before her illness, she worked on several projects, including "Animal welfare problems in boar production". Weiler was chairman of the COST action IPEMA . Weiler is also a liaison professor of the Hans Böckler Foundation and a member of the Academic Mittelbau-Konvent . She is the sister-in-law of Heiner Flassbeck . Weiler succumbed to cancer in the Katharinenhospital in Stuttgart .
