Ulysses Grant Dubach

Ulysses Grant Dubach (also UG Dubach , born November 9, 1880 in Wathena , Kansas , † September 4, 1972 in Portland , Oregon ) was an American political scientist .

Life

Family and education

Born in the small town of Wathena in Doniphan County in the US state of Kansas, Ulysses Grant Dubach, son of Fred Dubach and Margaret Hautzenrader Dubach, graduated from Kansas State Teachers College. He then studied political science at Indiana University , in 1908 he received a Bachelor of Arts . He continued his studies at Harvard University and at the University of Wisconsin – Madison , in 1909 he earned a Master of Arts degree from Harvard University , and in 1913 he received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin – Madison as a Doctor of Philosophy .

The Methodist baptized Ulysses Grant Dubach, staunch supporter of the Republicans , married Ida Castleberry on August 12, 1909. The daughter Helen came from the relationship. Dubach died in Portland, Oregon, in September 1972 at the age of 91.

Professional background

Ulysses Grant Dubach was employed as a teacher at rural schools in 1902 , then from 1905 to 1907 as superintendent at schools in the US state of Kansas. He then belonged from 1909 to 1911 in the function of an instructor in history of the faculty of the Oklahoma University Preparatory School in Tonkawa . In 1913 Dubach followed a call as Professor of Political Science at the Oregon State College in Corvallis . In addition, he acted as head of department and first Dean of Men from 1924 , in 1947 he retired due to old age. Dubach then moved to Portland, where he worked as Professor of Political Science and head of the department of the same name at Lewis & Clark College, in 1960 he was retired.

The Freemason Ulysses Grant Dubach was a trustee of the Foundation for Economic Education, Incorporated . He was an elected member of the Western Political Science Associations, the Sigma Phi Epsilon, the Alpha Kappa Psi , the Phi Kappa Phi, the Blue Key Society, and the City Club of Portland. Dubach published articles in scientific journals.

Ulysses Grant Dubach was one of the leading political scientists of his time. Dubach was awarded an honorary doctorate in law (LL.D.) from Willamette University in 1952 and the Doctor of Humane Letters (LHD) from Lewis & Clark College in 1958. In honor of Ulysses Grant Dubach, the UG Dubach Chair of Political Science at Oregon State University and the UG Dubach Professorship in Political Science at Lewis & Clark College were established.
