action

As resident René knows, the prostitutes' vans, which René, suffering from myopathy in an advanced stage, can no longer go to park on national road 7, near which there is a home for the physically handicapped . He takes out his frustration at this condition on the other residents and staff. But only the new nurse Julie agrees with him and is ready to throw herself into a tragicomic fight: Even the search for a prostitute who is willing to take on Oliviers and whose vehicle has the necessary requirements turns out to be difficult further complications arise when René also needs a Viagra recipe and the question arises in the home as to whether the in-house minibus is even used for such a trip or how the trip can be billed to the cost bearers. René, initially so unpopular, sets things in motion with his action: The other residents are now waking up from their externally managed dependency, the carer Sandrine, who has successfully hidden her unhappy private life for years, is experiencing a happy phase of life again, and Julie has to choose between an unsympathetic but socially recognized doctor and a technically superior technician.

backgrounds

The “originals” are shown in the end credits of the film: Olivier's story is reminiscent of René Amistadi , a deceased friend of the director Sinapi; Julie's archetype is Sinapi's sister, who works in a corresponding home near Toulon and who inspired her brother to make this film. The film was shot on the appropriate original locations and in part has almost the character of a documentary film. The residents of the home can be seen in supporting roles and as extras; the main roles were taken over by actors.

Reviews

"The staging, which cleverly balances documentary play and comedy through the use of digital video cameras, denies any compassionate look at the sexual needs of its protagonists and, thanks to convincing actors, finds the poetically exaggerated portrayal of an often denied taboo topic."

Awards

At the International Film Festival in Berlin in 2000 received Uneasy Rider the Panorama Audience Award.
