The more than 7,000 square meter facade was designed as a media facade with a dot matrix of LEDs . It consists of more than 40,000 pixels, based on approx. 160,000 individual LEDs. The system works on a video component basis at 25 frames per second. The concept for this was provided by the lighting planning office Licht Kunst Licht (Bonn and Berlin) in collaboration with the Berlin media artists Holger Mader , Alexander Stublic and Heike Wiermann ; the technical execution was carried out by the company Barco (Belgium). The media facade is sometimes also used as a large billboard .

The Uniqa Tower was built from October 2001 to June 2004 for around 70 million euros. The official opening took place on June 25, 2005. The architect of the building is the Viennese Heinz Neumann . When it was built, the tower was the first new office building in Austria to be awarded the EU label " Green Building ".

On October 25, 2006, the tower was awarded the building owner's prize awarded annually by the Central Association of Architects in Austria .

The insurance company that moved into the tower was previously based 250 meters upstream at the corner of Praterstrasse / Taborstrasse. Your abandoned office building was demolished; the Uniqa hotel and business building was built in its place .
