List of high-rise buildings in Vienna
In the Austrian capital Vienna , high-rise buildings are mainly located in the peripheral parts of the city. Most of Vienna's tall buildings are concentrated in Donau City , a modern district north of the Danube , as well as in Wienerberg City to the south . The area along the inner-city part of the Danube Canal from Schottenring via Schwedenplatz to Wien Mitte station also has a significant density of high-rise buildings, albeit with a relatively lower elevation. According to the Vienna Building Code, a high-rise is considered a high-riseBuildings exceeding 35 meters in height. The currently tallest skyscraper in the city, DC Tower 1 , opened in February 2014.
As the example of the horticultural high-rise , the discussions about the Wien Mitte high-rise project around the so-called reading tower and, more recently, the project for a high-rise on the grounds of the Vienna Ice Skating Association show, high-rise buildings in Vienna are particularly controversial. The intensity of the relevant debate is also related to the fact that the historic downtown Vienna as a world heritage for the purposes of UNESCO is declared. This is considered an obstacle for high-rise buildings close to the center.
