The United States Department of Veterans Affairs Police is the police department and security department ( Office of Operations, Security, and Preparedness - Police Services ) of the War Veterans Ministry ( United States Department of Veterans Affairs ) of the United States, based in Washington, DC The organization has 3,200 employees at 171 locations. The current head of the agency , as Director, Police Service , is Michael Franklin.

The agency emerged from the Veterans Affairs Protective Service , founded in 1930 . Its task is to protect the buildings and facilities of the numerous hospitals and institutes as well as to maintain public safety and order there . Law enforcement officers receive their Basic Police Officers Training Course from the Department of Veterans Affairs Law Enforcement Training Center in North Little Rock , Arkansas .
