The Eichstätt-Ingolstadt University Library is a service facility of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt with locations in Eichstätt and Ingolstadt . The university library is a member of the Bavarian Library Association . With around 2 million media, it is one of the largest libraries in Bavaria .
history
The library of the Eichstätter clerical seminary was founded in 1710 as the first forerunner . In 1806 the Eichstätt State Library took over the holdings of the institutions of the Eichstätt Monastery . The state library, the seminar library and other libraries were taken over in 1982 by the Eichstätt-Ingolstadt University Library. The central library was rebuilt from 1984 to 1987 under the direction of the architect Günter Behnisch and his office Behnisch & Partner . The building, designed as a star-shaped, low-rise steel frame construction , houses the central library as well as office and seminar rooms as well as the language laboratory and the photo laboratory. Part of the library's magazine is also located in this building .
In 1988 the Ingolstadt Economics Branch Library was established.
Due to space problems in Eichstätt, a new underground storage building for a million books was completed in 2012 at Rebdorf Abbey . In addition to holdings from abolished monastery libraries, journal volumes older than 15 years and less used holdings from all Eichstätter library locations are to be transferred to the magazine. The building has a length of 130 meters and a width of 22 meters and is equipped with a state-of-the-art, electronically controlled compact shelving system.
