history

The lower paper mill is the older of the two former paper mills around Feuerbach. Already in the 15th century it was operated as a grain mill by the Johanniter . In 1713 a paper maker from Thuringia , Johann Jacob Meißner, acquired the Heinrichsmühle and set up a paper mill. In the period that followed, the mill changed hands frequently. In the middle of the 19th century the business had become unprofitable and operations were closed. From then on, the buildings were used as a residential building.

At last the mill had been in the hands of a certain Kempf. In 1858, together with a lithographer from Kitzingen, he had produced false Bavarian 10 guilder notes and had made great fortune with the counterfeit money. The printing plate had been ordered by the forgers in America. Finally the forger's ring in the paper mill was discovered. Kempf was sentenced to twelve years in prison. A flour mill was then installed in the buildings again. Today the mill is used as a riding stables.
