Untergeißendorf is a hamlet of Berga / Elster in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .
geography
Untergeißendorf lies in an intermediate valley of the flat plateau above the valley of the White Elster in a cropped area. Most of the time there is forest on the impassable slopes and hills of the floodplain. The county road 209 leads from Berga via Untergeißendorf to Obergeißendorf .
history
The hamlet was first mentioned in 1475 as Niderngeissendorff , other sources report that it was first mentioned in 1434. A deed of foundation has not survived. Untergeißendorf owned a manor, a church and a school. The Untergeißendorfer mill can be traced back to 1533 and existed until after the Second World War . In the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the hamlet was subordinated to the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach . The localities have belonged to Thuringia since 1920. On July 1, 1961, both hamlets were combined to form the municipality of Geißendorf and 30 years later incorporated into Berga / Elster. As of 2012 Untergeißendorf had 30 residents.
