history

The district was first mentioned in documents in 1340 and from that time the von Wolffersdorff family was also based in Markersdorf. Other possessions were the Wolfersdorf manor and Berga Castle. Hans Bastian II. Von Zehmen acquired from the family v. Wolffersdorff took over the Markersdorf manor and was able to move into it in 1686. He set up the "Fabian Sebastian Foundation" for the needy, from whose interest until 1945 socially disadvantaged people received a donation. He was also captain of the Neustädter Kreis and a deputy to the Dresden state parliament. In addition, he was appointed to the electoral secret council and served Johann Georg III. or Friedrich August I. ( August the Strong ). His descendant, the farmer Friedrich von Zehmen (1779-1851) in Markersdorf, earned services for the deep furrow that he made at home in the local area. His motto was: "Pray and work, God will help you". The last owners of Rittergut Markersdorf and Rittergut Neumühl were Moritz Bastian and Christoph von Zehmen . MB vZ played an important role in the surrender of the city of Berga to the Americans in 1945 without a fight . The family was expropriated in 1945 as part of the land reform . Land and inventory were given to resettlers and poor farmers. As early as 1953 these were collectivized in an agricultural production cooperative . From this emerged after the political change the agricultural cooperative Elstertal Markersdorf, which has its administrative headquarters in the district. After 1990 companies and commercial enterprises settled in the district. 150 people live in the district.
