Unzen ( Japanese 雲仙 市 , - shi ) is a city in Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan .
geography
Unzen is east of Nagasaki on the Shimabara Peninsula .
history
Unzen was formed on October 1, 2005 from a merger of the Minamitakaki , Kunimi , Mizuho , Azuma , Aino , Chijiwa , Obama and Minamikushiyama communities .
education
There are two public high schools in Unzen today. The "Kunimi High School of Nagasaki Prefecture" ( 長崎 県 立国 見 高等学校 , Nagasaki-kenritsu Kunimi kōtō-gakkō ) in the former Kunimi won the national high school football tournament six times between 1987 and 2003 and has also produced numerous professional football players since the 1980s , including the national players Takuya Takagi , Ryōta Tsuzuki , Yoshito Ōkubo , Yūhei Tokunaga , Sōta Hirayama and Kazuya Yamamura .
