Upper East Side Love (alternative title: A Summer in New York , Original Title: Suburban Girl ) is an American comedy film directed by Marc Klein from 2007 . The screenplay was written by Marc Klein based on the short stories My Old Man and The Worst Thing a Suburban Girl Could Imagine from the book The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank . The film was shot in New York City . Starring Alec Baldwin , Maggie Grace and Chris Carmack play alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar .

Brett Eisenberg comes from a Jewish family, works as an editor in the publishing business, lives in the Upper East Side district of Manhattan and has a steady relationship. Personnel changes in the management of the company make her job to create. Your new boss messes everything up and is not satisfied with Brett's work. When she comes home one evening and finds her boyfriend with his lover, the barrel overflows. Something has to change, says Brett.

She and her friend Chloe attend a party in the city library. There she meets the publisher tycoon Archie Knox. After several meetings, tender bonds begin to develop between the two. When her ex-boyfriend wants her back, she explains that she has already met someone new who is open to a serious relationship. After it all started as an affair, she ended up dating "Arch" for a long time.

Suddenly she received the news that her father is terminally ill. She travels to her family home and experiences the last few weeks of her father until he finally succumbs to his illness.

Archie struggles with a lot of affairs and Brett finally sees no other way than to end the relationship despite her love for Archie. The film ends with the words The End. where Brett crosses out End and puts Beginning under it as a note .

Andrew O'Hehir wrote on www.salon.com, the film was " uneven " but " pleasantly sharp " ( " pleasantly acrid ").

The film was shot in New York City and Toronto . It had its world premiere on April 27, 2007 at the Tribeca Film Festival .

Francis Ford Coppola is currently (as of April 2007) working on another film adaptation of The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing . He owns the rights to the title of the book.
