Uwe Johannes Zimmermann (born November 19, 1958 in Wenden-Gerlingen ) is a German mechanical engineer and politician ( LKR , previously AfD ).

Life

Zimmermann's ancestors come from the low mountain range of the Westerwald and Sauerland . He studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University and in the USA at the renowned Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Engineering degree . After graduating in engineering and receiving his doctorate ( Dr.-Ing. ) At the Institute for Control Engineering under the direction of Heinrich Rake in Aachen, he worked in the industry in the area of control engineering ("high- speed large diesel engines ").

In 1995 he was appointed professor for measurement and control technology in the field of mechanical engineering at the Trier University of Applied Sciences (since 2012 Trier University of Applied Sciences ). Other focal points of his work are mathematics , physics and the simulation of dynamic systems . He is the author of several scientific books that have been published by Shaker Verlag and, together with his Trier colleague Harald Ortwig, publisher of the 7-volume institute series "Trier Systemtechnik".

In November 2013 he was elected by the delegates at the state party conference in Kloster Machern to succeed Klaus Müller as chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional association of the Alternative for Germany party (AfD). On May 9, 2015, he was confirmed in the office of state chairman at the state party conference in Bellheim, Rhineland-Palatinate. After the federal party conference in Essen in July 2015, however, he left the party.

He is one of the 70 founding members of the Alliance for Progress and Awakening (ALFA), which was founded on July 19, 2015 in Kassel, Hesse. On September 5, 2015, he was elected chairman of the newly founded ALFA Rheinland-Pfalz. In November 2016, the party renamed itself Liberal Conservative Reformers (LKR). In the summer of 2017, Zimmermann resigned with the entire LKR state board.

Zimmermann is married and has four children. He lives in Saarburg .
