The Uz Pass ( Romanian Pasul Uz , Hungarian Rugát-hágó ) is a passport in Romania . Because of its strategic importance, it was fiercely contested during the First World War between German and Austrian units on the one hand and Romanian units on the other.
Geographical data
The pass is named after the Uz River . The pass is located in the Eastern Carpathians on the sub -mountain range of the Munții Ciucului Mountains at 1085 m between the peaks Cicinda ( 1197 m ) in the north and the Gruiul Mare ( 1192 m ) in the south. About the Uz Pass the county road connects (Drum Judeţean) DJ 123, the Transylvanian Basin in Sânsimion in Harghita county , the county road DJ 123A in Sânmartin the National Road Drum naţional 12 - section of the European route E578 - with the Drum naţional 12A town Dărmăneşti in the West Moldau . At Sânsimion, the Sfântu Gheorghe – Siculeni – Adjud railway runs here in the Olt Valley.
