history

The VR-Bank Fichtelgebirge-Frankenwald eG emerged from several, previously independent cooperative banks. On January 31, 1918, 20 citizens, mostly farmers and craftsmen, founded the Oberredwitz-Tiefenbach Loan Association, which is the cornerstone of today's VR-Bank Fichtelgebirge-Frankenwald eG.

On January 31, 1918, the First World War was not quite over. The living conditions were bad and in Oberredwitz too people took to the streets and protested for peace and bread. 20 citizens decided to help themselves by founding a cooperative bank according to the guidelines of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen: self-help, self-administration and self-responsibility. The primary goal of the cooperative was to raise the money for daily economic and business operations. In addition, it helped to invest the money of its members more easily, bought raw materials, sold the products and was jointly and unrestrictedly liable for the association's debts. The following decades were marked by wars, crises and conflicts. Various events had an impact on the bank’s business direction:

By 1933, the loan association established more and more the goods business in the Oberredwitz business area. The aim was to help the strongly regional agriculture. The association not only traded in seeds, agricultural machines were also purchased and made available to members. This step was necessary above all because the money lost more and more of its value in the course of the 1920s. The boom in the commodity business was a counteracting force.

During the Second World War there were hardly any records, only with the preparation of the currency reform in 1947 did it start again. One day after the reform, on June 21, 1948, the loan association had to start over with total assets of 366.74 D-Marks. The goal was slow but continuous growth.

In 1954, the loan association decided to change its name to Raiffeisenbank Marktredwitz. In the following years the bank merged with the Raiffeisen houses in Haingrün , Groschlattengrün - Pechbrunn , Tröstau , Nagel and Röslau . In 1967 the decision was made to build a modern bank building on Poststrasse in Marktredwitz. The branch network that was created was very well received by customers.

In 1970, with electronic data processing, cashless wage payments also moved into the banks. The region's porcelain companies were pioneers.

In 1983 Raiffeisenbank Marktredwitz moved into its new headquarters, where it is still based today. In the 1980s, the bank purchased ATMs and bank statement printers. These made day-to-day banking much easier and made visiting the bank more convenient for customers.

The Raiffeisenbank Marktredwitz merged with the Volksbanken in the Fichtelgebirge in 1991 - the Raiffeisen-Volksbank Marktredwitz-Selb was created. At the end of 2001 the euro came along and presented the banks with a new challenge. Raiffeisen-Volksbank Marktredwitz-Selb merged with Raiffeisenbank Arzberg-Selb and expanded its business area to include three branches in Vogtland. The VR-Bank Marktredwitz was born.

With the turn of the millennium and the euro, some companies in the Fichtel Mountains got into trouble. This also had an impact on VR-Bank Marktredwitz. In 2004 Johannes Herzog, who is still active today, became CEO of the bank. He brought them into calmer waters, sold the branches in Vogtland and thereby secured jobs. In 2007, the MarktserviceCenter went online from Thiersheim , where all calls are received and all inquiries are managed. A year later, the representatives' meeting voted against the nine names: VR-Bank Fichtelgebirge. Since 2012, the VR-Bank has again invited to general meetings. With a meadow festival atmosphere and atmospheric entertainment, the future direction of the bank will be discussed.

In 2016 the bank merged with Raiffeisenbank Berg-Bad Steben. The current name is VR-Bank Fichtelgebirge-Frankenwald eG. With the new brand and communication appearance, which arose from the latest merger, the bank began to convert the main office building in Marktredwitz. In February 2018, near the 100th anniversary, the modern, converted counter area opened its doors.
