The Val Curnera , also called "Curneratobel", is a side valley of the Vorderrhein Valley in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .

The valley is located southeast of the Oberalp Pass , south of the village of Tschamut in the Tujetsch community . It is considered the uppermost side valley of the Surselva . To the west lies the Val Maighel, to the east the Val Nalps with the Lai da Nalps reservoir .

In the Curneratobel, the wall of the Lai da Curnera reservoir was built in the 1960s , a system of the Vorderrhein power plants . The most important rivers - both of which feed the reservoir with their water - are the Rein da Curnera and the Rein da Maighels . The Rein da Curnera flows from the valley.

The valley above the reservoir

From the glacier at the southern end of the valley between Piz Borel  ( 2951  m above sea level ) and Piz Blas ( 3019  m above sea level ) there is hardly anything left, apart from a few remains of firn and a small piece on Piz Blas.

The valley has a high variety of minerals (various quartz , hematite , gold and silver in small amounts ). The Cavradi Gorge at the end of the valley is known for minerals made from rutile and hematite. Local emitters mine the minerals in small quarries.
