Valentin Radutiu

Valentin Radutiu (* 1986 in Munich ) is a German cellist of Romanian descent.

Career

Radutiu learned to play the cello from his father Emil Radutiu, a cellist with the Munich Radio Orchestra. He fled Romania in 1977 by taking a concert tour of his orchestra with his cello and concert clothes.

Radutiu later studied in Salzburg , Vienna and Berlin with Clemens Hagen , Heinrich Schiff and David Geringas . Valentin Radutiu lives in Berlin.

Awards

Praised by the Süddeutsche Zeitung for his “excitingly unique, energetic, enchanting singing up high, always clearly contoured, male tone in the lower registers”, Valentin Radutiu is one of the rising cellists of his generation.

Honored many times at the "Jugend musiziert" competition, in 2008 he won 1st prize at the International Karl Davidov Competition in Riga. In 2011 he was honored with the German Business Music Prize. In 2012 Valentin Radutiu won the 2nd prize at the International Enescu Competition in Bucharest. From the 2012/13 season Valentin Radutiu was supported as a “stART” artist by Bayer Kultur with concerts and project funding.

Radutiu played under the conductors Jiří Bělohlávek , Wolfram Christ, Ruben Gazarian , Gustavo Gimeno , Pablo Gonzales, Stanislaw Kochanowski, Jérémie Rhorer, Leoš Svárovsky and Radoslaw Szulc.

He kicked u. a. in the: Hong Kong City Hall , Berlin Philharmonic , and Konzerthaus Berlin , Munich Philharmonic in Gasteig, Herkulessaal Munich, Prinzregententheater Munich , Glocke Bremen , Rheingoldhalle Mainz , Great Guild Hall Riga, the Athenaeum in Bucharest and at numerous festivals (including Schleswig- Holstein Music Festival , Heidelberg Spring , Cellobiennale Amsterdam, Intermezzo Vilnius, Hong Kong Arts Festival, SoNoRo Festival Bucharest).

Discography

Radutiu has released several CD recordings with the pianist Per Rundberg: In addition to the debut CD, which was released in 2011, there is an album with works by Lalo, Ravel and Magnard and the first complete recording of the works for cello and piano by George Enescu on Hänssler Classic in front. The first CD recording of Peter Ruzicka's cello concerto and cello chamber music documents the intensive collaboration with the composer and conductor. After the album “Remembering the rain” by jazz pianist Benjamin Schaefer , a recording of classical cello concertos with the Munich Chamber Orchestra was recently released. Next publications at Hänssler Classic are cello concertos by Haydn, Janson and Christian Bach with the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn as well as a duo recording with the pianist Evgeni Boschanow and works by Sergei Wassiljewitsch Rachmaninow and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky .
