Valtellina Rosso

Valtellina Rosso or Rosso di Valtellina is a red wine that is produced in the northern Italian province of Sondrio , Lombardy region . The wine has had a "controlled designation of origin " (" Denominazione di origine controllata " - DOC) since 1968 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted on the right bank of the Adda river in the municipalities of Ardenno , Tirano , Piateda and Ponte in Valtellina and on the left of the river in the municipalities of Villa di Tirano and Albosaggia .

generation

The wine is made from the following grape varieties :

  • At least 90% Nebbiolo , also known locally as "Chiavennasca"
  • A maximum of 10% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in Lombardy may be added.

According to the denomination, the wine should have the following properties:

  • Color: ruby red, occasionally with garnet reflections
  • Smell: delicate, persistent, characteristic
  • Taste: dry and slightly tannic, occasionally with light wood tones
  • Alcohol content: at least 11.0  % by volume
  • Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
  • Dry extract: at least 20.0 g / l
