Riviera del Garda Bresciano

Under the name Riviera del Garda Bresciano or simply Garda Bresciano there are white and red wines that are produced in the northern Italian province of Brescia , Lombardy region . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " (" Denominazione di origine controllata " - DOC) since 1977 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

The cultivation is within the municipalities of Limone sul Garda , Tremosine , Tignale , Gargnano , Capovalle , Idro , Treviso Bresciano , Provaglio Val Sabbia , Sabbio Chiese , Vobarno , Toscolano-Maderno , Gardone Riviera , Salò , Roè Volciano , Villanuova sul Clisi , Gavardo , San Felice del Benaco , Puegnago , Muscoline , Manerba del Garda , Polpenazze , Moniga del Garda , Soiano del Lago , Calvagese della Riviera , Padenghe sul Garda , Bedizzole , Lonato , Desenzano del Garda , Pozzolengo and Sirmione allowed.

These types of wine are produced:

  • Riviera del Garda Bresciano Bianco or Garda Bresciano Bianco . Consists of the following grape varieties : a maximum of 100% Riesling , a maximum of 20% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Lombardy may be added.
  • Riviera del Garda Bresciano Rosso and Riviera del Garda Bresciano Chiaretto (or Garda Bresciano Rosso and Garda Bresciano Chiaretto ). Consists of the following grape varieties : 30–60% Groppello , 10–25% Sangiovese , 5–30% Marzemino (locally also called “Berzemino”), 10–20% Barbera . A maximum of 10% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in Lombardy may be added.
  • Riviera del Garda Bresciano Groppello or Garda Bresciano Gropello : must consist of at least 85% of the Groppello grape variety (in the variants Gentile , Groppellone and / or Mocasina ). A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in Lombardy may be added.

"Chiaretto" is a local name for a rosé wine .
