Lambrusco Mantovano

Under the name Lambrusco Mantovano there are rosé and red wines that are produced in the northern Italian province of Mantua , Lombardy region . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " (" Denominazione di origine controllata " - DOC) since 1987 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

The wines are produced in two different "sub-zones" ( sottozone) :

In 2016, 31,475 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 265 hectares of vineyards .

These types of wine are produced:

  • Lambrusco Mantovano Rosso and
  • Lambrusco Mantovano Rosato

The following grape varieties are used: at least 85% Lambrusco Viadanese (locally also called "Grappello Ruberti"), Lambrusco Maestri (locally also called "Grappello Maestri"), Lambrusco Marani and / or Lambrusco Salamino individually or together. A maximum of 15% Lambrusco di Sorbara , Lambrusco Grasparossa (locally also called "Grappello Grasparossa"), Ancellotta and / or Fortana may be added individually or together.
