geography
Vauchamps is located at 407 m , about 17 kilometers east of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the western Jura , on the so-called first plateau, a wide basin between the heights of the Jura ridge (Côte) in the north and the Côte d'Anroz in the south, on the Ruisseau du Gour.
The area of the 2.94 km² large municipality covers a section of the western French Jura. The entire area is taken up by the wide first Jura plateau, which averages 410 m. It forms a wide basin with no above-ground drainage. The Ruisseau du Gour, flowing north near Vauchamps, drains away after a short walk at the foot of the Côte. In the area of Vauchamps, the plateau is predominantly made up of arable and meadow land, partly also of forest. To the east, the community area extends over the plateau to the edge of the Bois de Vuillorbe forest . On a hill southeast of the village, the highest point of Vauchamps is reached at 457 m.
Neighboring communities of Vauchamps were Champlive in the north, Glamondans in the east, Bouclans in the south and Osse in the west.

With 128 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2015) Vauchamps was one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (113 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has since slowed down again since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Vauchamps was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. The hydropower of the Ruisseau du Gour was previously used to operate mills. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Bouclans to Champlive. Another road connection is with Osse.
