history
The discovery of a Roman burial ground indicates that the municipality of Bouclans was settled very early. The church of Ambre is mentioned as early as 1092, which was replaced in the 15th century by a new building on the site of today's cemetery (on the northern outskirts of Bouclans). The place name Bouclans possibly goes back to the Germanic word bukilo (hump, small elevation).
Around 1280 the lords of Montfaucon had a castle built in Bouclans, with which a local noble family was enfeoffed. In 1462 the rule of Bouclans came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Burgundy. In 1522 the rule was bought by the Lallemand family. Together with Franche-Comté , Bouclans came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The continuing rule of Bouclan was raised to a marquisate in 1749. Ambre has been a part of bouclans since the French Revolution .
