The Veeam Software Group is an IT undertakings incinerating or the software for backup - Katastrophenwiederherstellungs- and virtualization management for virtual environments from VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V developed. The company is headquartered in Baar, Switzerland .
The company's main focus is on virtualization. The name “Veeam” is derived from the English pronunciation of “VM”, which is an abbreviation for virtual machine .

history

Veeam was founded in 2006 by Ratmir Timashev after he sold his previous IT management software company, Aelita Software Corporation, to Quest Software , now part of Dell , in 2004 . Some of the former senior executives at Aelita joined Veeam.

The first products Veeam brought to market were the Veeam Monitor and Veeam Reporter software applications for monitoring, reporting, analyzing and documenting virtual infrastructures. The company gained widespread attention in 2007 with FastSCP, a free VM backup product that became the basis of Veeam's data protection software for virtual server partitioning .

In 2008, with just ten employees, the company launched the first version of Veeam Backup & Replication , which enabled incremental data backups integrated with data deduplication and data compression , as well as image-based replication .

In 2014, Veeam hosted its first data protection conference, VeeamON, which was held in Las Vegas , Nevada .

By 2015 Veeam grew to more than 2,000 employees with its headquarters in Baar, Switzerland, as well as 17 worldwide branches and regional company headquarters: for the EMEA region in France, Paris , the American region in Columbus , Ohio , the Middle East in Dubai and the Asia-Pacific space in Sydney , Australia . On November 30, 2018, Veeam Software AG was converted into a GmbH. Since December 21, 2018 it has been operating under the name Veeam Software Group GmbH.

  • Veeam Availability Orchestrator - a solution for automating, documenting and testing disaster recovery procedures.
  • Veeam Backup for Office 365 - A solution for backing up cloud-based or hybrid Office 365 environments
  • Veeam Management Pack - monitoring and management software for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments that is integrated with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager .
  • Veeam Agent for Windows - backup software for Windows-based desktops, laptops and servers.
  • Veeam Agent for Linux - backup software for Linux-based desktops, laptops and servers.
  • Veeam Task Manager - free software for real-time monitoring of Hyper-V performance.
  • Veeam Stencils - a free collection of Microsoft Visio stencils for making diagrams.
  • Veeam Extended Generic Report Library for System Center - a free collection of health and performance analysis reports to complement the Microsoft Generic Report Library.

Partnerships

Veeam has partnered with Cisco , Coraid, Inc., ExaGrid, Hewlett-Packard , Microsoft , Tandberg Data and VMware .

In July 2013 Veeam announced the collaboration with Insight Venture Partners as a partner and minority shareholder. Under the agreement, Insight's Managing Director Michael Triplett became a member of the Veeam Board of Directors.

Acquisitions

In 2008, Veeam acquired nworks to expand the integration of VMware administration with the enterprise management system platforms from Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard. This resulted in two new products:

  • Veeam nworks Management Pack for VMware for direct integration of VMware management with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager.
  • The Veeam nworks Smart Plug-In for direct VMware management in HP OpenView .

In 2012, both products were renamed Veeam Management Pack and Veeam Smart Plug-in. The name "nworks" has been removed.

In 2018, Veeam took over N2WS for the equivalent of 35.1 million euros (42.5 million US dollars). N2WS is a company providing solutions for the security and availability of resources within Amazon Web Services . N2WS is currently being continued as an independent business unit with its own branding.

Awards and honors

Veeam has received a number of annual awards from InfoWorld, TechEd, TechTarget, VMworld and Windows IT Pro.

Ratmir Timashev was named one of the Top 25 Innovators by CRN Magazine in 2013.

In 2014, Veeam was named a Visionary in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup / Recovery Software for the second year in a row.
