The Velký Javorník is a 918-meter-high mountain at the foot of the Beskidy Mountains and the highest point of the vrchy Veřovické .

Memorial stone for the victims of the mountains on the top of Velký Javorník

On the summit there is a historic mountain inn from 1935 with no accommodation. Behind the house there is a memorial stone for the victims of the mountains . Every year around 30,000 tourists climb the mountain. A new lookout tower has been in place since the summer of 2013 , which allows a wide view. When the weather is clear you can see Lysá hora , Smrk , Kněhyně , Radhošť , Palkovické hůrky and Ondřejník from the top of Velký Javorník . In a north-westerly direction there is a view of the partially dismantled Kotouč and Štramberk Trúba . When the visibility is good, you can see the towns of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm , Frýdek-Místek , Nový Jičín , Kopřivnice as well as Ostrava and Havířov .

location

The three villages Bordovice , Veřovice and Trojanovice border the Velký Javorník . Velký kámen , a natural monument, is located on the north-western slopes of the mountain . The Jičínka River has its source on the southwest slope of the mountain .

Sports

The Velký Javorník is a popular base for fans of paragliding .

Inn

The first mountain inn was built in 1895 under Archbishop Theodor Kohn . It burned down in 1915. The new inn was inaugurated in 1935.

Observation tower

A triangulation tower was built on the summit in 1934 , which later also served as a lookout tower. It was removed in 1967 due to its dilapidated condition. In spring 2012, the state-owned company Lesy České republiky announced its intention to build a new observation tower on the summit. The tower opened on August 15, 2013. The wooden building is 25 meters high and has two viewing platforms, 15 meters and 20 meters high. Admission is free.

Paths to the summit

The top of Velký Javorník can be reached via several hiking trails:

  • Stripe-marked trail blue.svgThe blue marked hiking trail leads from Padolí (in the south-east of Veřovice ) relatively steeply to the top of Velký Javorník .
  • Stripe-marked trail green.svgThe green marked hiking trail comes from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm . There is a nature trail.
  • Stripe-marked trail red.svgThe tourist route marked in red comes from Nový Jičín . There is also a nature trail along the way.

From Rožnov pod Radhoštěm you can follow the blue markings to the crossroads at Kamenárka . From there the red path continues to Velký Javorník . From Radhošť you can follow the blue marked path and switch to the red marked path at the Malý Javorník junction.

An asphalt road also leads to the summit, but it can only be used with special permission.
