Venancio Celestino Orbe Uriarte CP (born April 6, 1927 in Frúniz , Province of Bizkaia , Spain , † July 18, 2008 in Lima , Peru ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of the Moyobamba Prelature in Peru.

Life

Venancio Celestino Orbe Uriarte joined the Order of the Passionists (CP) and was ordained a priest on August 7, 1949 . He then went to the mission.

1967 he was by Paul VI. Appointed titular bishop of Naratcata and second episcopal prelate of the Moyobamba Prelature (Territorialis Praelatura Moyobambensis) in Peru, a spin-off from the Diocese of Chachapoyas in 1948. He received his episcopal ordination on November 21, 1967, the Archbishop of Lima Juan Cardinal Landázuri Ricketts, OFM; Co-consecrators were Bishop Gregorio Elias Olazar Muruaga CP, then San Gabriel de la Dolorosa del Marañón, Peru, and Bishop Victor Garaygordóbil Berrizbeitia , Prelate of Los Ríos , Ecuador. On November 21, 1977, the Holy Congregation for Bishops changed the title to Bishop of the Prelature of Moyabamba.

In 2000 his resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II . He was then Provincial of the Passionists in the Basque Country, Navarra, Peru, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

In 2002 Orbe Uriarte was awarded the gold medal of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo by the Peruvian Bishops' Conference in recognition of his great service to the Church in Peru.
