The Ventura is a cruise ship of the P&O Cruises shipping company that was put into service in 2008 and belongs to the Grand Class. It is the second largest unit in the P&O Cruises fleet.
history
The Ventura was laid on August 29, 2006 under the hull number 6132 in the shipyard of Fincantieri in Monfalcone and was launched on June 8, 2007. After the delivery to P&O Cruises on March 31, 2008 and the official christening by actress Helen Mirren on April 16, 2008, the ship was put into service on April 18, 2008. The Ventura is a member of the eleven-unit Grand Class that was first introduced by Princess Cruises in 1998 .
From March to April 2013, the ship received a shipyard overhaul at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg .
In December 2019, the Ventura suffered an engine failure on a cruise from Tenerife to Arrecife due to an electrical problem and had to be brought back to the port by tugs.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Ventura has been temporarily decommissioned and taken to Weymouth , where it is anchored with other cruise lines. Previously, the ship had brought crew members from P&O Cruises and the Cunard Line from India back to their home country.
