Vera Rupp

Vera Rupp (born December 13, 1958 in Ober-Mörlen ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist .

career

After graduating from the Burggymnasium Friedberg , Vera Rupp began studying "History and Culture of the Roman Provinces" with Maria Radnoti-Alföldi at the University of Frankfurt . During her main course, she switched to the University of Freiburg with the subjects of Provincial Roman Archeology , Prehistory and Ancient History . In 1988 she received her doctorate from Hans Ulrich Nuber on the subject of Wetterauer Ware - A Roman Ceramic in the Rhine-Main Area . After completing her doctorate, she worked at the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Frankfurt , where she oversaw the exhibition on the Roman city of Nida-Heddernheim .

From 1988 to 2002 Vera Rupp was the district archaeologist of the Wetterau district based in Friedberg . In 2002 she moved to the State Office for Monument Preservation in Hesse . Since May 27, 2011, Rupp has been director of the Keltenwelt am Glauberg .

Scientific activity

As a result of many years of activity in the preservation of monuments, Rupp carried out excavations and emergency salvage in sites of all cultural epochs, including the villa rustica "Brückfeld" near Münzenberg - Gambach . The main focus is on research on civil life in the hinterland of the Limes , especially the Civitas Taunensium . One of the numerous research projects was the “Nördliche Wetterau ” project management in the priority program “Celts, Teutons, Romans - Research on Cultural Change under the Influence of Rome in the Centuries Around the Birth of Christ” of the German Research Foundation , currently project management for “Iron Age Saltworks Bad Nauheim ”, “ Wiesbaden and its surroundings in the 1st millennium AD ”and“ Rome's path from the Rhine to the Elbe. Sub-area Hessen ".

Rupp has been imparting archaeological knowledge to laypeople especially since her time as a district archaeologist; in addition to specialist publications, she also published popular scientific works. With Norbert Kissel, she is the author of the small booklets on archeology for primary school students . At the end of the 1990s she was one of the initiators of today's Keltenwelt am Glauberg , and has been involved with Egon Schallmayer since 2002 in setting up the Keltenstraße .

Vera Rupp has been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute since 2001 and a member of the Association of State Archaeologists in the Federal Republic of Germany since 2002 . She stimulated and promoted several master's theses, dissertations and diploma theses in the field of archeology at German universities, plus teaching assignments at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

In June 2011 Vera Rupp took over the provisional management of the Celtic Worlds at Glauberg, the decentralized State Museum Hessen, and succeeded Katharina von Kurzinsky.

Awards

On August 23, 2018, Rupp received the Wetterau Culture Prize 2018 for her voluntary commitment to the Wetterau past.
