The cockroach mullein ( Verbascum Blattaria ), also called cockwort , is a species of the mullein genus ( Verbascum ) in the figwort family (Scrophulariaceae). The specific epithet "Blattaria" is derived from the Latin word Blatta for "cockroach" and reminds, like the common German name , that this species was previously used to drive away cockroaches. It is an old crop against harmful insects.
